Types of cargo

We are a full-service port that handles all kinds of cargo. We do this around the clock, every day of the year.

Full-service port.

The Port of Gothenburg has the biggest range of transport solutions and services of all the ports in Scandinavia – energy, containers, ro-ro, vehicles, bulk, passengers and cruises.

We know it has to be convenient. We know it has to be climate-smart and efficient. We can handle all kinds of cargo and also offer a logistics park with a vast range of warehousing options, with modern stock management and the world’s biggest transshipment centre for forestry industry products.

Biggest range of routes in Scandinavia.

With direct services to Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the USA, you can reach the whole world, every single day. The Port of Gothenburg reaches all important import and export markets.

The Port of Gothenburg has the biggest range of routes in Scandinavia, and 60% of container cargo in Sweden goes via the Port of Gothenburg by climate-smart rail. All kinds of cargo can go by rail: containers, ro-ro, bulk liquid and vehicles, so you can transport your cargo in a safe, efficient and climate-smart way.

Climate-smart port.

The Port of Gothenburg has one of the most ambitious climate goals of all the ports in the world. We aim to reduce CO2 emissions throughout the cargo hub by 70%. On land, in the port and at sea. This requires major investments in climate-smart transport solutions, for example: fossil-free port, power supply for vessels, electrified work vehicles on quaysides. We are also investing in creating the conditions for switching as much cargo as possible to the climate-neutral rail option. We have a number of projects to become climate-smart, including the Skandia Gateway, where deepening of the fairway creates the conditions for the world’s biggest ocean-going vessels to call at the Port of Gothenburg fully laden.

Leading port in the field of digitalisation.

The Port of Gothenburg has seen a rapid development of smart digital tools to achieve more efficient, safer transport operations with the least possible environmental impact. Digital port calls – Just in Time – create a more predictable logistics chain that is easier to plan. Visualisation of cargo flows – PortOptimizer Track & Trace makes it possible to track cargo in real time.

No limit port 24/7/365.

Scandinavia’s most accessible port. We are open around the clock, all year round, and it’s easy to enter and leave the port. We have no ice, no tides, no locks, no bridges and no restrictions due to darkness. The Port of Gothenburg has plenty of moorings and Scandinavia’s biggest bunker hub, with green bunkering, and we offer vessel services.

We have the capacity and scope to grow and make green investments, such as the Skandia Gateway, Arendal 2 and Halvorsäng, to guarantee the Port of Gothenburg’s competitive strength for the future and an efficient, modern and climate-smart logistics chain.
