Our mandate.

The Gothenburg Port Authority’s primary mandate is to support trade and industry, both locally and nationally, and to create competitive advantages for Nordic industry. By maintaining, developing and marketing the whole port, we create the conditions for a strong, efficient and sustainable cargo hub.

One of our major tasks at the Gothenburg Port Authority is to maintain land, quays and other infrastructure in the port, and to build new facilities as the port develops. We are also responsible for ensuring that all calls by vessels are as safe, efficient and environmentally smart as possible. Another of our important tasks at the Gothenburg Port Authority is to advertise the opportunities at the Port of Gothenburg, to encourage more import and export companies to use our global range of routes.

The actual handling of cargo, i.e. the loading and unloading of vessels, is performed by specialist terminal operators. You can find information about and contact details of our terminal operators under the menu option Terminals and services.

Part of the City of Gothenburg.

The Gothenburg Port Authority is a part of the City of Gothenburg. Göteborgs Stadshus AB is our parent company and exercises the formal role as owner of the Gothenburg Port Authority. 

The Port of Gothenburg’s primary mandate is to support trade and industry, both locally and nationally, and to create competitive advantages for Nordic industry. Fully self-financed.

The Gothenburg Port Authority is fully self-financed. The company receives no financial support from its owner, the City of Gothenburg. Income is generated from customers in the form of concession charges, port dues for vessels, port dues for cargo and rents and leases. The company provides group contributions to the owner if this does not cause any significant limitation on our ability to make the necessary investments or to fulfil our mandate.
