This is where you reach the world and the world reaches you.
The biggest container port in Scandinavia is in Gothenburg. 53% of Sweden’s container trade is handled here, evenly distributed between exports and imports. The wide range of routes includes direct services to North America, North Africa, the Middle East, India, South Korea, China and other parts of Asia. Frequent feeder services also operate every day to the major transshipment hubs on the continent.
Gothenburg is a focal point for cargo handling without parallel in Scandinavia. 40.2 million tonnes of cargo are handled here every year, and 22,000 people are employed in the port. 145 trains travel to and from the Port of Gothenburg, every week, all year round – especially climate-smart, as they can travel all the way from 37 inland terminals all over Sweden and Norway right up to our quaysides. Gothenburg is also the natural intersection between three Scandinavian capital cities, where several European highways converge. Oslo and Copenhagen are just 3–4 hours away by road. Its location at the mouth of the Göta Älv river also makes the Port of Gothenburg a hub for short sea shipping, with services from both inland and the surrounding coastal area.
