Stanley Black & Decker is in the process of transferring its Nordic distribution operations to the DB Schenker Logistics facility at the Port of Gothenburg. The new distribution centre will have floor space totalling 12,000 sq m.

Stanley Black & Decker is the world’s largest manufacturer of tools and garden products. For many years it has served the Nordic countries from its European Central Warehouse in Belgium. In line with the company’s aim to establish closer links with the Nordic market, it has decided to open a Nordic storage and distribution centre at the Port of Gothenburg Logistics Park, just a stone’s throw from the quayside.

Kristian Paulsen, Vice President & General Manager Nordic at Stanley Black & Decker, highlighted the significance of having a storage and distribution facility in the Nordic region: “It is a vitally important investment if we are to deliver the right level of service to our customers. By doing so, we can assure and consolidate our joint development of the Nordic market. This establishment represents a crucial step into the future.”

Strategic location
The location at the Port of Gothenburg is ideal for Stanley Black & Decker in its endeavour to reach all the Nordic countries and offer good lead times. DB Schenker Logistics has been commissioned to handle stocks and operate a pick and pack system on behalf of Stanley Black & Decker.

“We’re looking at around 150,000 orders per year, covering the whole of the Nordic region,” said Mikael Eisner, Schenker Logistics AB Chief Executive.

DB Schenker leases a 24,000 sq m logistics centre from Gothenburg Port Authority. Located in Arendal, immediately beside the port, the building was completed at the end of 2013. Gothenburg Port Authority has invested 150 million kronor in this ultra-modern logistics facility.

50-60 employees
The transfer will take place in stages and will be fully implemented during the first quarter of 2018. By that time, it is estimated that 50-60 people will be employed at the 12,000 sq m distribution centre at the Port of Gothenburg.
