Volvo Ocean Race 2018

On October 22, the world’s premier offshore race – the Volvo Ocean Race – will get under way. After eight months at sea, the seven teams will arrive in Gothenburg in June 2018. This will be the final stopover before they head for the finishing line in The Hague.

During the previous race in 2015, the boats crossed the finishing line in Gothenburg and the people of the city had the opportunity to take part in what proved to be a truly memorable array of events and festivities at Frihamnen, in the very heart of the city. The Port of Gothenburg is a Main Partner for this year’s Volvo Ocean Race. The Volvo plant is located beside the port, and from the very outset it has shipped cars to different parts of the world.

The race, often described as the most challenging ocean race in the world, started from the home port of Alicante on October 22, 2017.

In the Race Village, the Port of Gothenburg will be on hand, running all manner of activities for young and old alike.

On June 14-21, 2018, Gothenburg will welcome the foremost offshore sailors in the world to Frihamnen – the final stopover before they head for the finishing line in The Hague. The Port of Gothenburg will be on hand at the Race Village throughout the entire event week.

After eight extremely challenging months at sea, the teams will set sail from Cardiff to Gothenburg for the final stopover before they head for the finishing line.

An event area will be created at Frihamnen, which is currently being developed into one of the newest and most exciting districts in the city. Here you can also see both the finishing line and the start of the final deciding leg to The Hague. The boats are expected to reach Gothenburg around June 14-15, 2018. On June 21, 2018, they will set sail from Gothenburg on the final leg of the race.

This will be the 13th time the Volvo Ocean Race has taken place and it will be the fourth time that Gothenburg has been a host city.
