More and more companies are choosing train transport to and from the Port of Gothenburg. The benefits are many. Train transport is cost-effective, reduces emissions to air and contributes to reduced congestion on the roads.
For several years, the Port of Gothenburg has been investing in rail shuttles that connect the port with inland terminals at cities around Sweden and Norway. The concept is called Railport Scandinavia. The system includes daily container train shuttles as well as several conventional trains with export products such as forests and steel.
Liquefied natural gas
The Port of Gothenburg is working actively to promote the use of liquefied natural gas, LNG, as a marine fuel. There are considerable environmental gains to be made from using LNG in shipping. Sulphur and particle emissions are reduced to almost zero and nitrogen emissions are reduced by 85-90 per cent.
